Jessica Green
My name is Jessica Green, and this will be my seventh year teaching at Overdale Elementary! I have taught kindergarten, a K/1 split, and first grade. I was born in Louisville, Kentucky. Growing up, I was always involved in both the visual and performing arts. I have played the cello since fourth grade, and in 2005, I earned my Bachelor of Music from the University of Kentucky. After graduating from UK, I completed the music therapy program at the University of Louisville, where I earned my national board certification as a music therapist. I worked as a music therapist and an activities professional for several years before I finally listened to the little voice in the back of my head that told me to become a teacher! I earned my Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Louisville in May of 2012. I am currently in the process of earning my National Board Certification for teaching.
I have a wonderful and loving family, including my husband, Ira, along with my mom, dad, and younger sister. We get together every Sunday (we call it “family day”) to eat and have fun! I love animals and have one fluffy cat at home named Sassy. When I’m not at school, I love to spend time with my husband, go for walks, garden, cook, draw, paint, ride my bike at Cherokee Park, and vacation at the beach. My favorite vacation spot is Sanibel Island, Florida. I used to go every summer as a child, and every time I go now I find tons of beautiful shells to add to my collection!
I am so excited to be teaching at Overdale! I know this is the best school around, and I am really looking forward to this year!

Leslie Weihe
Hello! My name is Leslie Weihe. (Pronounced “Y”) This is my 18th year in education. I have been married to my wonderful husband Kevin for 17 years. He is a school counselor in Bullitt County. We have 2 amazing children named Brady and Allison. Brady is 10 years old and will be entering 5th grade in the fall. Allison is 12 years old and will be in 7th grade. We have a dog named Jagger who is a miniature dachshund. I was born and raised in a little town in southeastern Kentucky called Harlan but currently reside in Mt. Washington.
I graduated Cumberland College in 2000 with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. In 2003, I received my master's degree as a Reading and Writing Specialist at the University of Louisville. In 2004, I received my National Board certification as an early childhood generalist and in 2014 I recertified. Most recently, I graduated from Bellarmine University with a Rank 1 as an educational specialist in Administration. None of this would not have happened without some great mentors and colleagues over the years.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected].

Thank you so much for visiting our web site and taking the time to learn more about us! This is my eighth year teaching, and I feel so privileged to have such a rewarding job. My first two years of teaching were spent as a reading specialist at Overdale. I taught Reading Recovery to first graders and taught small group reading lessons to kindergarten through fifth grade students. I especially love teaching kindergarten and first graders to read and seeing their excitement when they reach their reading goals, and I can't wait to work with this group of students this year to do just that!
I graduated from the University of Louisville in 2010 with a Bachelor's Degree in elementary education with a concentration in teaching students with learning or behavior disabilities. In 2014, I earned my Master's Degree in teaching reading and writing from the University of the Cumberlands.
I am so looking forward to getting to know my students and their families this year, and I'd love to share with you about my family, too. I married my high school sweetheart, Thomas, in June of 2012. We have a two-year-old son named "Connor", and our daughter, "Leah", was born this past spring. I love being a mommy, and I am enjoying this special time in our lives as we watch our babies grow (much too quickly!!). We also have two dogs, Cubby and Scout, who are our other two "babies".
Thanks again for getting to know a little about me! I'm happy to help should you ever have a question or concern, so please feel free to email me any time! - Katie Hicks
